Long synopsis : New York 1855. Lucky Luke, living legend of the Wild West, is escorting the notorious Dalton brothers to the Big Apple so they can stand trial. For the hundredth time. Of course, the Daltons do what Daltons do best: they escape. Robbing banks, wreaking havoc and blowing stuff up as they go. With a horde of slapstick cops hot on their heels, the nefarious brothers stash their loot in a lonely covered wagon in the middle of a vacant lot. After a breathless chase through mythic 19th century Manhattan, they manage to ditch the fuzz and return for the spoils. But an unpleasant surprise awaits: dozens of wagons, all identical! A covered wagon train ready to head West. Meanwhile Lucky Luke finally catches up with the four bandits. The gathered pioneers are mighty impressed by this bona fide cowboy... so impressed that their leader begs him to guide them through the ordeals of the Wild West, and on to California. Joe Dalton seizes the opportunity. If Lucky Luke accepts the mission, he'll have to take the Daltons along, leaving plenty of opportunities for recovering their lost loot. Joe's passionate speech in favour of the pioneers convinces Lucky Luke and he accepts. Pretty soon though, Lucky Luke realizes just how hazardous his mission is going to be. Because of course, our motley bunch of naive pioneers have been ripped off by a certain Mister Crook. It turns out they were sold land in California under impossible conditions: to claim it, they must cross the United States in 80 days. To accomplish such a feat, they will have to take every risk under the sun. But pioneers aren't pioneers for nothing! New York 1855.
